The Future Sapphires will perform at Old Fashioned Saturday Night in Kensington on August 14 and perhaps at a future football game.

Please pre-register by July 31 by calling Ashley Schilowsky at 476-5601 or Staci Foreman at 476-5066 to attend the camp. The cost is $30 per person.

Nice Rains for Summer Growth

The Kensington area received 2.50 to 3 inches of rain in thunderstorms last Tuesday night and Wednesday to give the crops moisture and a growth spurt to get through the summer heat the remainder of the week. The corn is as "high as an elephant's eye", the milo is lush, and the soybeans are blooming. It was a nice cool weekend with temps in the 80's for a lot of summer activities.

No School Report

In a call to the Thunder Ridge School for updates this morning, your correspondent got Steve Wangerin who was working on electronics. He stated all of the staff was still on vacation. Watch for future announcements on enrollments, etc., as they become available.

Great Response to Benefit

The benefit Poker Run and Dinner for the family of Joe and Beth Burns Saturday afternoon and evening were well attended and the response was overwhelming. About 50 cars and bikes were involved in the Poker Run and the cyclists appreciated the cooler day. About 250 attended the dinner in the evening. The donations were generous and will be used to help defray the medical expenses incurred by the family. Thanks to everyone who contributed in any way!

Around the Community

Carolyn Haresnape, Jonathan, Kathryn and Arianna of Cary, N.C., are spending an extended vacation at the home of Carolyn's parents, Martin and Florence Stenseng, while extensive remodeling is done on the Haresnape home. The Smith County Fair is now history and, despite the hot temperatures, many entries received excellent and good ratings. The Phillips County Fair is on this week and then the Rodeo will continue with plenty of entertainment.

Thought for the week--Joy grows best in the soil of thankfulness.
