Waldean Obering, 74, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at the Care Center in Franklin, Neb., due to kidney failure. He was born Sept. 22, 1932 to William and Marie (Morzahn) Obering on a farm north of Kensington. He was baptized at Pleasant Green Lutheran Church on Oct. 23, 1932. After that church's closure, he faithfully attended St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington as long as his health permitted.

Despite limited vision Waldean was able to maintain his home in Kensington after his parents' death. He loved farm life and spent many hours at the Dennis Tire Shop visiting with farmers and especially enjoyed harvest and seeing the trucks come to the elevator and discussing quality and yields with the drivers. He appreciated the fellowship and meals at the Kensington Senior Center until his health diminished and he entered a housing facility and later the care center at Franklin to be nearer his brother, Verlyn, his only immediate survivor.

His earthly body was given for research to the University Hospital in Omaha. There was no memorial service.
