Waldean Obering, 74, died Monday, Sept. 10,
2007, at the Care Center in Franklin, Neb.,
due to kidney failure. He was born Sept. 22,
1932 to William and Marie (Morzahn) Obering
on a farm north of Kensington. He was
baptized at Pleasant Green Lutheran Church
on Oct. 23, 1932. After that church's
closure, he faithfully attended St. John
Lutheran Church in Kensington as long as his
health permitted.
Despite limited vision Waldean was able to
maintain his home in Kensington after his
parents' death. He loved farm life and spent
many hours at the Dennis Tire Shop
visiting with farmers and especially enjoyed
harvest and seeing the trucks come to the
elevator and discussing quality
and yields with the drivers. He appreciated
the fellowship and meals at the Kensington
Senior Center until his health diminished
and he entered a housing facility and later
the care center at Franklin to be nearer his
brother, Verlyn, his only immediate
survivor.
His earthly body was given for research to
the University Hospital in Omaha. There was
no memorial service.

Diane (Susie)
Olesen had successful surgery in Wichita last
week and is home. She will be missing several
weeks in the school kitchen while she
recuperates.
Dean and Darlene Miller are concerned about
their great-grandson, 16-month old Samuel
Nachtigal, son Scott and Sara Nachtigal of
Kearney, who was admitted to the hospital in
North Platte, Neb., Friday with a severe
case of croup and was placed on a ventilator.
The family was visiting parents and
grandparents, Ed and Denise Erickson in North
Platte when he was stricken. He was much
improved Monday morning.
Amy Bienhoff was hospitalized several days at
Phillipsburg for medication and treatment. She
is regaining her strength since returning
home.
It
is hoped that little Macie Stokesbury will be
able to come home after spending many weeks in
the neo-natal nursery in Wichita and later in
Hays following her premature birth. Her
mother, Elizabeth Stokesbury, and sister are
currently staying with her family in
Kensington while the father, Anthony
Stockesbury, is "at sea" in the U.S. Navy.
Sympathy is extended to Justin, Deidra and
Peyton Chestnut on the death of Justin's
grandfather, James Chestnut, 78, of

bride-elect of Casey Erick, son of Carol and

and Alan Erick, and Deb stayed with her
daughter, Abby Levin in Coppell, Tex.
The Highway 36 Treasure Hunt drew huge crowds
over the weekend from as far away as Colorado
and Missouri and places in between. Cars
pulling trailors, vans, and many cars were
loaded along the way with "bargains." The
Senior Center, First St. John Lutheran Church,
JoAnn Brooks, Cindy Tuxhorn, and Melanie
Elliott for S.O.S. had their wares for sale
and did good business.
After a cool, fall-like week with about .40 of
slow rain Saturday morning, summer is giving
us another whack before it gives way to
aumtumn weather. There is gusty strong wind
today reminding this former farm-wife of
silage-filling weather in the past. Another
cool front is forecasted to come through
Monday night with possible showers. No frost
is indicated at this time.
Sunday dinner guests of Ruth Bienhoff were
Elton and Dot Haarberg of Colorado Springs.
They were returning from a month's trip
visiting their son in Virginia and many
relatives enroute.
Take the time to put your ideas about the
placement of the Goldbug memorabilia in one of
the containers around town. The SITE Council
would appreciate your input.
