Time Marches
On
Your correspondent,
Ruth Bienhoff, recently discovered while
re-reading some past Christmas letters
that it was in the fall of 1973 that she
began writing the Kensington news column
for the Smith County Pioneer. She did
substitute writing until Lottie Bronson
was no longer able to write the column
and has been collecting and writing the
happenings in Kensington for almost 35
years. Soon Huck Boyd of the
Phillipsburg Review also contacted her
and the column appeared in that weekly
publication also. She later began
sending the column to The Advocate of
Phillips County.
The writing
progressed from a manual Royal
typewriter to an electric typewriter
with the use of carbon paper for the
duplicate copy. Local folks who worked
near the offices in Smith Center and
Phillipsburg graciously took the notes
with them on Tuesday morning as they
were going to their jobs. About ten
years ago she acquired her first
computer, and she has been able to send
the notes by e-mail. They do not have to
be re-typed. This change is most
appreciated by her as well as the
newspaper staff.

interested to know that Doris Hohner is
currently a patient at the Ottawa County
Hospital in Minneapolis, Kans., where
her son, Kelvin, lives.
Sympathy
is extended to Allen and Janna Daniels
of Athol and family on the death of
Allen's father, Richard Daniels, 78, of

funeral will be Wednesday afternoon at 2
p.m. at the Athol United Church of
Christ with Pastor Becky Saddler

farm and watching the wildlife. Vesta

Lots of outdoor Christmas lighting
was put in place last week on warmer
days. Those planning to do this over the
weekend either postponed this task or
wore heavy clothes and gloves. It was
cold with winds and snow flurries which
made it seem even more frigid. Residents
woke up to a beautiful covering of snow
Friday morning which soon melted as the
sun came out. It is reported that most
of the fall harvest is completed.
Thanksgiving dinner guests of Bruce,
Lisa, and Lantz Grauerholz and Nick
Robison of Hildreth, Neb., were Howard

They went especially to help Paul and
Apryl Sweat's son, Martin, celebrate his
first birthday. His birthday was on the
17th, but in order to have both sets of
grandparents there, they decided to wait
until Thanksgiving to celebrate. Also
attending were Cleve and Lynda Rousser
from Amarilla, Texas, and Apryl’s
sister, Gracie Lynes, who lives in the
Denver area.
