Earlier Copy is
Needed for Next Issue
Please call (785-476-2801) or send your
notes by e-mail to ruthb@ruraltel.net as
soon as an event occurs in your home
this week. Your correspondent has been
informed that the column next week must
be at the newspaper offices Friday
morning, Dec. 26 (the day after
Christmas). Unless you folks help her
out, there will be zilch to report.
We know there will be a lot of
family gatherings and folks would like
to read about who was back to visit and
where local people went to celebrate
Christmas. She does need your help
especially with this early deadline.

Holiday
Greetings
Your
correspondent hopes you will have a
Merry Christmas. The extreme cold, ice
storms, and blizzards might have caused
some change of plans, but we hope that
it will be a time of remincsing about
the birth of our Lord and Savior and
thanking God for this great gift.
Because of the early copy needed, a
Happy New Year wishes are also bestowed
on you. May the year 2009 be filled with
many blessings for all of us.

Around the
Community
Mary Anthony was able to return to her
home in time to celebrate her 97th
birthday and Christmas. She had been in
Manhattan with her daughter, Patricia,
while recovering from surgery for a
broken hip. Her son, Bob of Oregon,
brought her home and is spending two
weeks with her.
In an e-mail from
Evelyn Krein of Salina, she reports that
their youngest daughter, Staci Thomas,
has been diagnosed with lymphoma and
will begin treatments immediately. Staci
and her husband, Clint, have three
children ages 10, 6, and 7 months and
live in Garden Plain. She also states
that Harvey is scheduled for back
surgery on January 22 in Salina.
Bonnie Younguist reports that Newton
Youngquist is again in Seattle, Wash.,
serving as Santa in a large mall. Newton
with his natural white beard has done
this for many years being in
Pennsylvania, Texas, and now in
Washington for several years. He reports
that even in Seattle the weather has
been unusual.
Funeral services
were held Friday afternoon at the
Olliff-Boeve Chapel in Phillipsburg for
Ilene Evans, 90, formerly of Denver, but
death was in New Mexico where she was
living with a nephew. Burial was in the
Olive Branch Cemetery rural Kensington.
Ilene was a sister of the late Eddie
Eveans and worked in her parents'
grocery store many years ago. Her
nephew, Rev. Lynn Evans of Cheyenne,
Wyoming, was in charge of the service.
Lynn graduated from Kensington High
School in 1960 and his sister, Lynda who
was also present for the servince.
graduated in 1965. Lynda also lives in
Cheyene.
College students began
arriving home last week after finishing
their finals. It is always good to have
these youth in our midst again for
several weeks.
Santa didn't make
it to the Craft Fair this year in
Kensington, but he spent Saturday
afternoon at the Kensington Grocery
Store listening to the wants of the
children.
Sunday evening early
Christmas dinner guests of Ruth Bienhoff
were Laura Beth Bienhoff of London,
England, Jennifer and Ryan Bruns of
Marshall, Minn., Emily Levin of Inman,
Chris Broekelman of Natoma, and Megan
Hudson and Kayden, Paul, Deb, and Leah
Bienhoff and Joel and Connie Bienhoff,
all of Kensington. Nick Levin was unable
to get time off from his work.
The St. John Lutheran Quilters group had
their Christmas pizza dinner Wednesday
in the parish hall and all eight
members, Eulonda Hagman and Pastor Patsy
were present despite the cold wintry
day. It was good to have Cecilia
Grauerholz back for a short time after
hospitalization.
We will have a
white Christmas along with very cold
temperatures. Several inches of snow
fell during different days the past week
leaving the ground with a good covering
of the white stuff. When we hear of
other areas with snow storms, ice and
power outages, we feel very fortunate
and will savor family gatherings at
warmer times.
Because of the
request of early copy for this week's
issue, items that were turned in on
Monday and the Prairie Haven notes will
be included next week.
Please
remember to turn in your notes by Friday
morning--that is the day after
Christmas--to get them into next week's
issue.

Prairie Haven
Notes
C.F.F. Carols
for Prairie Haven Residents
The children from Christian Faith and
Fun that meet each Wednesday night after
school at First St. John Lutheran Church
shared their Christmas joy with
residents at Prairie Haven Wednesday
evening. It is reported that the
residents were so inspired by their
enthusiasm that some of them sang the
carols with them. It was a fun time for
children, "young and old." Thanks to
teachers and sponsors who transported
them to make this possible.
