Two board of directors will be elected at
the annual meeting of the Kensington
Community Store Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m.
at the Kensington Senor Center. The annual
report will also be given. All members are
urged to attend.
The students of Kensington Junior and Senior
High Schools will be presenting their spring
concert Monday, April 28 at 7 p.m. in the
gym. The bands and choruses along with
individual musicians will be featured.
Kristi Reneberg is the director.
The National Honor Society Induction
Ceremony will be held Wednesday, April 30,
at 3 p.m. in the high school gym. Jill
Stoelting, advisor, will present the pins
and awards. The public is invited. A
reception for honorees and parents will
follow.
Darren Wiens of Kearney, Neb., will be the
guest speaker at the Jr/Sr High Achievement
Banquet at the Legion Hall Thursday, May 1.
A potluck meal (parents of students are
designated certain dishes) will be served at
6:30 p.m. Tickets for additional expenses
of the meal are available at the high school
office. Packets with the students' awards
will be handed out following the program.
Ruth Levin is still taking locations for the
map of the city-wide garage sales in
Kensington on Saturday, May 3. Her number is

Senator Janis Lee came for lunch on Tuesday,
April 25. There were nineteen present to
listen and ask questions. She gave a review
of what had taken place in the last session
and told of bills she was working on to get
passed. Senator Lee answered any questions
to the best of her ability. Everyone
appreciated her efforts for this part of the
state.
Twenty-nine were present for the birthday
dinner on April 14. Honorees present were
Marlene Kuhlmann, Mark Migalski, and Maria
Seemann. Gardening news, humorous sayings
and word scramble was the program.
Upcoming events are a pinochle party on
Tuesday, April 29 at 7 p.m.; Volunteer
Appreciation Day on Thursday, May 1, and the
Bake Sale on Saturday, May 3. Plan the baked
goods you are going to prepare now.

Three young women affirmed their baptism
during the worship service at St. John
Lutheran Church Sunday morning. They are
Michaela Bienhoff, Larissa Dettmer, and
Shelby Gordon. They assisted as acolytes and
lectors and sang the special anthem, "You
Are Mine." A potluck dinner for relatives
and friends was served by friends from the
church to honor the new confirmands.
Pictures were taken by Connie Gordon and a
special cake made by Karen Huiting was
served.
Don Wiens welcomed those in attendance at
the 13th annual Young Artist Concert which
was held Sunday afternoon, April 13, at the
First St. John Lutheran Church in
Kensington. He announced the performers who
then introduced their own numbers.
Kristi Rothchild of Smith Center was the
adult musician this year. She was one of the
Kensington Music Club's scholarship
recipients when in college. She shared her
love of music and education as well as the
opportunities she has to use her musical
talents. She then sang a vocal solo.
Other performers were Madeline Reneberg,
flute solo, "Fantasia #2, Allegro" by
Telemann; Katie Hughes, vocal solo, "The
Little Irish Girls" by Lohr; Abigayle
Hendrich, piano solo, "I Am a Poor and
Wayfaring Stranger" by Rebecca Bonam; Elly
Miller, clarinet solo, "Solo Simplice" by
Hovey and Leonard; Kelly Henderson, vocal
solo, "Amazing Grace" by Althouse.
Also performing were Amanda Sarr, tenor
saxophone, "Rhapsodie" by Monroe; Megan
Petty, piano solo, "Come Thou Fount" by John
Wyeth, arr. Frank Garlock; Abilgayle
Hendrich, vocal solo, "Danza, Danza" by
Francesco Durante; Jackie Reneberg, alto
saxophone, "Hunter's Chorus" by Rousseau;
Karli Kattenberg, piano solo, "Coolliwog's
Cake Walk" by Debussy; Megan Petty, Abigayle
and Timbrely Hendrich, violin trio, "Still
Nearer" by Tracy Anne Collins.
After thanks had been expressed to the very
talented musicians who performed and
acknowledging their hard work and
dedication and also to the persons in
attendance for supporting the scholarship
fund for future musicians, the group
assembled in the parish hall where cookies,
coffee, and hot spiced tea were served
during the fellowship time.
The high school gym was beautifully
decorated with the theme "After Dark" for
the Junior/Senior Prom Saturday evening,
April 19. The students arrived in their
finery on a beautiful spring day to enjoy
the meal prepared by the Junior Class
mothers. The traditional class will and
class prophecy were read during the program.
"Complete Music" provided the music for the
dance that followed.
A post-prom party was held at the Legion
Hall for students and their dates. A good
time is reported by the students.
The K-town Kates hosted a salad supper
Tuesday, April 15 at St. John Lutheran
Parish Hall. Jeanne Bogart registered the 42
guests and provided them with name tags
featuring different birds of Kansas.
President Loretta Struik welcomed the
members of Middle Cedar and Home on the
Range Units, Solomon Valley Bird Watchers
and Sunflower Sisters along with other
guests.
The beautiful photos of Kansas birds taken
by Connie Gordon were on display and also
used along with many bird houses as table
decorations. Guests were seated according to
the birds on their name tags at designaed
tables. Ruth Levin led the singing of the
"Doxology" before the delicious salad supper
was enjoyed.
Terry Mannell of the Ornithological Society
of Hays was the guest speaker. He presented
a slide presentation while telling about the
many species of birds found in Kansas. Many
were identifiable by the audience.
The K-town Kates had a short business
meeting after the program. Tentative plans
are to go to the Pizza Hut for the May
meeting. Joyce Gruaerholz and Georgetta
Kinyon volunteered to host the Food Pantry
on April 19.
Derek and Janeen Sturtevdant of Waverly,
Neb., are the parents of a son, Brayden
Warren, born April 10, 2008, at Saint
Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in
Lincoln, Neb. Brayden weighed 7 lbs. 5 oz.
and was 20 inches long.
Grandparents are Dennis and Glenda
Sturtevant of Milford, Neb, and A.J. and
Margaret Spatz of Seward, Neb.
Great-grandparents are the late LeRoy and
Margaret Gemaehlich of Kensington, Martha
and the late Warren Sturtevant of Beaver
City, Neb., Helen Knap of Seward, Neb., and
Adolph and Margaret Spatz of Bee, Neb.
Alex Levin and Kimbralee Swanson plan to be
married on May 31, 2008 in Tucson, Ariz.
Alex brought family and friends to
Kensington for a bachelor party over the
weekend. Wild turkey hunting was the
activity for the group. The men stayed in
the homes of Jeff, Steve, and Otto
Levin and headquartered at the home of
Evelyn Levin.
Coming from Tucson were Alex, his father,
John Levin, his future father-in-law, Dave
Swanson, Sean Swanson, Daniel Hutto, and his
uncle, Alan Levin; Coming from Denver were
Curtis Swanson and Ben Harrison, along with
Joe Levin of Merriam, KS, Nick Levin of
Inman, KS, and Spencer Levin of Colorado
Springs.
Omitted from the account of the death of
Opal Hansen last week was that she was also
preceded in death by her son-in-law, Eugene
Stevens, as well as her husband, parents and
siblings. Eugene, her daughter Peggy's
husband, was killed in a car accident about
5 years ago. Opal also leaves six
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Matt Sidman is doing as well as possible
recovering from injuries in a traffic
accident. He continues at the hospital in
Scottsbluff, Neb., but the family continues
to try to get him transferred to a hospital
closer to home. Check with family for
further information.
Mark and Lucinda Migalski were dinner guests
on Sunday, April 13, at Maria Seemann's
home to help Mark celebrate his birthday.
Linda Rahjes and Donna Westbrook attended a
Bell Choir Concert in Hastings,
Neb., Saturday evening. Featured were the
talented Hastings College Bell Choir and the
Pikes' Peak Ringers. The director of the
Pikes' Peak Ringers writes special
arrangements that have been performed by the
St. John Lutheran Bell Choir in which Linda
and Donna are ringers.
Kensington city received .60 rain in all-day
showers last Thursday. Temps rose to about
80 degrees Sunday to give a reminder of
spring, but as this column is written on
Monday, a strong wind is blowing from the
north cooling temperatures down.
Greetings and fitness and fun exercises
begin each day. Jenny Reilley had the beauty
shop open on Monday and Carmen Rice did nail
care. One-one sessions are held regularly.
Woodworking inventions and tools were
discussed Monday. Bingo was played Tuesday
afternoon.
The third and fourth graders and their
teachers came Wednesday for the visit that
all the adopted grandparents look forward to
having last Wednesday. Ruth Wolf played
favorites on the piano.
The United Church had the Thursday morning
Bible study followed by fellowship with
coffee and cookies. Spring weather brought
lots of conversation in the
afternoon. "First" facts were also
interesting. The local news was read Friday
morning and bingo was played in the
afternoon. Putting together puzzles, playing
cards, and watching movies are evening
entertainments with the Lawrence Welk Show
on Saturday night always bringing out the
most residents.
Douglas and Mae Dunavan attended the
confirmation of their great-granddaughter,
Michaela Bienhoff, at St. John Lutheran
Church Sunday morning and stayed to enjoy
the delicious dinner.
St.John Lutheran Sunday School studens and
their teacher, Joyce Grauerholz, came to
present their Bible story and sing favorite
songs Sunday morning. Present were Kendra
Billigns, Morgan Westbrook, Andrea Seemann, and
Joey Molzahn. Pastor Patsy Koeneke was
assisted by Linda Miller for the afternoon
worship and communion service. Ruth Bienhoff
was pianist.
