Congratulations to the Kensington Goldbug boys for taking first place in the Cheyenne Conference basketball tournament at Phillipsburg Friday night. They defeated the Eastern Heights Mustangs by a sizeable score. A large crowd of fans from both schools was in attendance. Kensington will travel to Eastern Heights Friday evening for a regular season game and that will probably be the last contest between these two schools before the consolidation into the Thunder Ridge Longhorns next fall..
 
The Kensington Lady Bugs defeated the Logan girls for third place. The teams were closely matched with Kensington coming out on top with a score of 45-42.
 
 
Books are Fun has another display of items to be purchased at the Kensington Community/School Library until Monday, Jan. 21. A new shipment of CKLS books has also arrived. Income tax forms are available for your convenience.
 
The show case for the month of January features a memorial to Princess Diana--Ten Years Later. The display is courtesy of Jane Whitney and Pauline Robb.
 
New books added to the adult section are "Blood Orange" by Drusilla Campbell, "Fair Warning" by Alexander Hannah, "The Covenant" by Beverly Lewis, and "Shadow Music" by Julie Garwood.

There were 24 voting members at the annual meeting of the Kensington Senior/Community Center, Inc., Wednesday, Jan. 9. Leonard Schultz and Darlene Miller were re-elected to the Board of Directors for another three year term.
 
A soup supper on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3, is planned at 5 p.m. which is open to the public. Soups and "super" desserts will be on the menu. Watch for further details.
 
January birthdays will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 17 at noon. The Food Pantry will be open Saturday, Jan. 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. The Kensington Lions Club will beet Monday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Center. Pinochle will be played Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m.
 
Pitch winners last week were Barbara Grauerholz, high; Nadine Louise McCormick, low; and Elvyn Slavik, most 13's. There were 13 present.

Correction    
 
The H.O.M.E Foundation soup and dessert luncheon was last Sunday, Jan. 13, instead of Jan. 20 as the date was erroneously given last week. They report a good turnout and everyone enjoyed the food and fellowship on a nice winter day.
 
 
Frances Goakey, 89, a long-time resident of Athol died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Deseret Care Center in Smith Center. She leaves nieces and nephews.
The funeral was Thursday afternoon at Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary in Smith Center with Pastor Dave Hutson officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant View (Myers) Cemetery near Athol.
 
 
We're happy to report that Brittany Kirchhoff who was injured in a sledding accident before Christmas was able to attend school for half days last week on Thursday and Friday. She is the daughter of Todd and Chris Kirchhoff and in the seventh grade.
 
Larry Miller is scheduled for by-pass surgery on his leg at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb., mid-week.
 
Jeff Nech, Brennen and Maggie have moved to the home to the home on South Main Street they purchased best identified as belonging to Cleon and Martha Dettmer.
Cleon is deceased and Martha is a resident at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton.
 
A water main sprung a bad leak in the south east part of town on East Cottonwood Monday. The city was without water during the noon hour while repairs were being made. Why is it that everything you want to do depends on water (or electricity) when it is not available?
 
As this is written Monday afternoon, it is a nice winter day with sunshine. News for this column is as scarce as "snow in July" as everyone is probably running necessary errands before the next Arctic front moves in later this week; however, very little moisture is forecasted at this time.
 
 
The usual greetings, fun and fitness exercises, and one-one sessions started the week on Monday. Hair stylings were done and manicures given. Discussion on one hundred years ago took up the afternoon. Bingo was played Tuesday afternoon. Riddles and food cliches were the topic on Wednesday afternoon.
 
First St. John Lutheran Church had the Thursday morning Bible study followed by coffee and fellowship time. Pies were enjoyed for refreshments in the afternoon.
 
The local news was read Friday morning. The January birthday party was held in the afternoon. Residents with January birthdays are Irma Lee on Dec. 16 and Lorraine Grauerolz on January 17. Putting puzzles together, playing cards, watching a movie, trivia and watching the Lawrence Welk Show was enjoyed, too.
 
The United Church had the Sunday morning Bible Class and afternoon worship service.
