Tipton and the other at Pike Valley.

Steven Andersen, Ryanna Rahjes, Trent

Jeff Levin suffered a heart attack Tuesday
morning and was air-lifted to Salina where
stents were put in two blocked arteries. He
returned home Friday and is making a good
recovery. Micki's son-in-law, Scott Owens, is
a family practitioner at Salina Regional
Medical Center, and Jeff's cousin, Byron
Grauerholz, is an orthopedic surgeon there, so
he and Micki had lots of support.
Tara Seemann returned home Wednesday after
surgery in Wichita and is doing as well as
possible. They will be returning to Wichita
Wednesday for a routine check-up.
Don Dodds, Sr., spent several days in the
hospital in Hays for observaton and tests of a
heart problem. Medication was prescribed. His
g5randson, Ja Shawn Dodds, 3-year-old son of
Ashley Dodds, was also in the hospital for
observation locally.
A rental home belonging to George Powell on
East Cottonwood in Kensington was destroyed by
fire Tuesday morning. It was occupied by
several young folks. There were no injuries.
The cause is believed to be an electrical
short in the fuse box.
Leslie Hainke and Alana Pfeifer spent Jan. 18
thru 21 in New York City. Leslie was invited
to attend a reunion at the Tripp Lake Camp
that is located in Maine where she spent a
summer two years ago as a camp counselor. She
invited Alana to go with her as it was Alana's
first visit to New York. Other than having
luggage problems, they both had a great time.
Leslie is the daughter of Gary and Grace
Hainke and Alana is the granddaughter of Elvyn
and Doris Slavik, all of Kensington.
Bruce and Amber Hardacre, Elizabeth and
Abigail of North Platte, Neb., spent the
weekend with home folks. They visited Tara and
Martin Seemann and family on Sunday.
Don and Irma Sheley of Colby celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Joining them for a celebration dinner at the
Colonial Restaurant at Oakley were Paul and
Ruby Schreiber of Central City, Neb., Jim and
Linda Lukesh of Lincoln, Neb., Evelyn Levin,
Steve and Deb Levin and Otto and Cheryl Levin
of Kensington, Mike Sheley of Colby, and Tom
and Debra Waldron and Bryce and Ian Waldron of
Dodge City. Special guests were their pastor
and wife, John and Deanna Schmidt of
Colby. Deanna is a niece of Clara Beckmann of
Kensington.
Vince and Kim Rietzke, David and Becky Levin,
Larry and Tonja Westerman, and Curtis and Mary
Beach returned Sunday, Feb. 20, from a 7-day
eastern Carribean Cruise leaving from Miami,
Florida. They visited the islands of San Juan,
St. Thomas, and St. Maarten which they
enjoyed. They report a wonderful time.
There are lots of respiratory illnesses going
around especially among the younger children.
The stomach distress is also still present.
School absences seem to be slightly above
normal. Kensington's matriarch, Pearl Ratliff
at Prairie Haven, aged 94, has been miserable
with the chicken pox. Tests were run to be
sure that it was the pesky disease.
What a difference a week makes in Kansas. As
this column is written Monday afternoon,
temperatures have climbed to 60+ degrees with
some wind which will make quick work of the
remaining snow and perhaps help dry the feed
lots for the farmers. This morning's low was a
balmy 38 degrees. Earlier last week we
experienced lows near zero with highs
sometimes not reaching the freezing point.
But---don't put away those winter coats,
gloves and hats because a cold front is
expected later tonight with the possibility of
light snow and gusty winds.

Thursday morning Bible study. Coffee-time with

hot tea were served in the afternoon. The
local news was read from the papers Friday
morning and bingo was played in the afternoon.
The residents enjoy movies, board games, card
games, putting puzzles together in the
evenings, and especially appreciate the
Lawrence Welk Show on Saturday evenings.
