Kensington's Main Street has
lost a business since the
recent closing of Razr's
Beauty Salon because
of health issues of the
proprietor, Sue Griffy. Sue's abilities
and expertise will certainly
be missed in the community,
and our prayers and concerns
are with her as she
continues with therapy and
treatment.
Julie Cole who had been
helping out part time in
Sue's salon will now be
working at Illusions Beauty
Salon on Thursdays to help
serve the needs of the
public. To make an
appointment with Julie for
Thursdays, call
785-476-2826.

The human body is a machine
that is full of wonder. Here
are a few more facts that
will leave you to appreciate
of the way we were designed.
1. It takes the food seven
seconds to get from your
mouth to your stomach.
2. The average human dream
lasts 2-3 seconds.
3. Men without hair on their
chests are more likely to
get cirrhosis of the liver
than men with hair.
4. At the moment of
conception, you spent about
half an hour as a single
cell.
5. The is about one trillion
bacteria on each of your
feet,
6. Your body gives off
enough heat in 30 minutes to
bring half a gallon of water
to a boil.
7. The enamel in your teeth
is the hardest substance in
your body.
8. Your teeth start
developing (in your gums) 6
months before you are born.
9. When you are looking at
someone you love, your
pupils dilate; they do the
same when you are looking at
someone you hate.
10. Blondes have more hair
than dark-haired people.
11. Your thumb is the same
length as your nose. (At
this moment, it is a known
fact that you will be
putting this last fact to
the test).
Douglas Donovan, a resident
of Prairie Haven, had a
heart catherization and
stent put in last week and
is currently undergoing
further observation and
testing at the Good
Samaritan Hospital in
Kearney, Neb. His daughter,
Pat Bienhoff, is with him.
Zach and Brock Wallgren
enjoyed a trip to the
Hastings Museum and IMAX
with their Grandma Janeen
Wallgren on Thursday, August
24. They saw two movie
presentations, "Dinosaurs"
and "Sea Monsters." They
were surprised that "Sea
Monsters" was about when
Kansas was covered by sea
water, and also told about
Mr. Sternberg (Sternberg
Museum in Hays) and where
and how he found the many
sea creature fossils in
western Kansas. Both were
excellent and very
educaitonal movies. The boys
anxiously await the next
movie presentation of
"Aliens" in September at the
IMAX.
Jeff and Carolyn
Haresnape, Jonathan,
Kathryn, and Arianna of
Cary, N.C., will be
coming Monday, August 4,
to visit her parents,
Martin and Florence
Stenseng, and Jeff's
parents, Don and Carol
Haresnape of Smith
Center. They hope to get
to see some of their
many friends in the
area.

Alyassa Muller, Alexandra
Muller, and Nicholas Muller
of El Paso, Texas., and

her family came especially
to attend the Schoeni family
reunion July 19 and to visit
with family and friends in
this area. Their visit was
brief due to members of the
family having to be back to
Texas to jobs and school on
July 20.

Anita Palmer and grandson of
Mildred Dettmer, along with

Center Redmen played on the
West Team in the 35th Kansas
Shrine Bowl Saturday evening
at Welch Stadium in Emporia.
The great experience was
made even more
special when their West Team
defeated the East with the
score of 29-28.
Gardeners, get ready.
Friday, August 8, is
"Sneak Some Zucchini onto
Your Neighbor's Porch Day."
Tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet
corn and other garden
produce is enhancing the
meals at many homes. Jeri
Hunter states her garden is
doing well and she will soon
be at the Country Corner
with her produce.
Beth Nech and Kelli Johnson
recently visited Lisa
Ratliff, a Kensington High
School classmate, who is now
working as a nurse at a
hospital in Virginia near
Washington, D.C. The girls
had a great time reminiscing
as well as seeing a lot of
the interesting places in
our nation's Capitol. Beth
recently graduated from
cosmetology school in
Lawrence and will be working
in a salon on K.U. Campus.
Kelli is attending Ft. Hays
State University.
Curtis and Mary Beach and
Bruce and Amber Hardacre,
Elizabeth and Abby spent the
weekend with Kiley and Katie
Beach in Topeka. They
attended a Royals game and
experienced a rain-delayed
game. This will be the last
week for Bruce to be working
in North Platte, Neb. He
will start his own insurance
business in Kensington on
August 1.
Jessica Werner has returned
to her home in Mitchell,
S.D., after spending three
weeks with her grandparernts,
Ron and Carmen Rice. They
all enjoyed a short trip to
Oklahoma to visit cousins.
Jessica also was enjoyed by
Prairie Haven residents as
she helped her grandmother,
Carmen, with her duties
there.
Only two words describe the
weather the past week, hot
and humid. Kensington city
received .30 rain in a fast
developing afternoon
thunderstorm Saturday
afternoon with heavier
amounts south of town. Large
hail was reported in the
Prairie View area. With the
lush crops growing so
beautifully, this would be
very devastating. Lawn
mowing keeps everyone busy
along with the necessary
farm work and gardening.
Forecasters predict temps in
the triple digits most of
this coming week so the air
conditioners will be working
overtime.
The usual greetings, fun and
fitness exercises begin each
day. The beauty shop was
open Monday and manicures
were given. The Men's Club
met after lunch. Afternoon
discussions were on the
White House. Bingo was
played Tuesday
afternoon. The nicknames
of different states were
shared Wednesday and dog
days made for interesting
conversation.
Pastor Koeneke of St. John
Lutheran Church had the
Thursday morning Bible
study. Coffee and cookies
were enjoyed while visiting
which followed. A guessing
game of which year an event
occured was held in the
afternoon. The local news
was read from the
Pioneer Friday morning and
bingo was played in the
afternoon. Other activities
enjoyed were watching game
shows, Lawrence Welk and
movies on television.
Sympathy is extended to the
family of Betty Kuhlmann who
passed away last Monday. The
staff and residents will
miss Betty and also the
daily visits of Gilbert and
their dog.
Visitors signing the
register were Bonnie Slavik
with Clara Slavik; Lee and
Charlene Ewing with Forrest
Ewing; Esther Norden and
Marlene Kuhlmann with Clara
Beckmann and friends; Rita
Kleinschmidt and Jerald and
Karen Huiting with Lucille
Schoeni; Joyce Grauerholz
with Esther Mann and
Lorraine Grauerholz; Orvin
Kuhlmann, Teresa Turnbull,
Marilyn Bergell, Deanna
Schmidt and Leona Kuhlmann
with Clara Beckmann; JoAnn
Rice with Francis Gaines;
Georgetta Kinyon of the
Heartland Worship Center
with friends; Lois Runion
with Georgia Endsley.
The residents have really
enjoyed 15-year-old Jessica
Werner the past three weeks
who has been coming with her
grandmother, Carmen Werner,
to help with Carmen's
duties. Jessica is such a
friendly, eager young woman
that adds sparkle to the
life of the residents. She
will be missed now that she
has returned home to
Mitchell, S.D.
