p.m. Leona Breeden from
Smoky HIlls Television will
be a special guest to do a
special presentation and
would like all of the
children to come at the same

The Hardly-Used Book Sale at
the Library will continue
until Friday, July 11. There
are still many good books
available.
It's time to make plans
for the Old Fashioned
Saturday Night in Kensington
which is tentatively set for
August 16. The Kensington
Community Booster Club will
be meeting tomorrow
(Tuesday) to make these
plans and more information
will be available soon. Mark
your calendars now and plans
to have fun in your home
town.
St. John Lutheran Church of
Athol will be having their
annual Mission Festival
Sunday, July 13, with
services to begin at 10:45
a.m. Keith Hooper will be
the guest speaker and tell
of his mission work in the
Phillipines. If you have
heard Keith speak before,
you will want to come again,
and if you have never heard
his story, you won't want to
miss this opportunity. An
invitation is issued by the
congregation to worship with
them and enjoy the noon meal
and fellowship.

the TOPS (Taking Off
Pounds Sensibly) IRD
(International
Recognition Days) in
Chicago July 3-5.
Delores represented
Kansas as SRD (State
Recognition
Days) Queen. TOPS was
celebrating their 60th.
anniversary and the
theme was "All That
Jazz." Several
excellent speakers were
on the program to
inspire members to
continue with their
weight loss efforts. The
women enjoyed the event
and it was a very
educational meeting.
During some free time
the ladies enjoyed an
architectural river
cruise and a stroll down
the Magnificent Mile of
Michigan Avenue doing
some window shopping.
Time was too short to
take in any other
attractions but a good
time was had by all.
Nancy Lemon, 53,
Phillipsburg, died Friday,
July 4. She grew up in the
Kensington area and
graduated from Kensington
High School with the class
of 1953. She was a cook at
the Golden Years Center in
Phillipsburg.
She is survived by her
husband, Allan Lemon of
Phillipsburg; her parents,
Roy and Mae Wangerin of
Kensington; a stepson, Scott
of Kansas City, Kans.;
stepdaughers, Lesa Dunn of
Ellsworth and Lacey
Rodriguez and Lindsey Wood,
both of Phillipsburg; a
brother, Steve Wangerin of
Kensington; three sisters,
Jeanne Bogart, Suzanne
Faulkner and Ruth Fouts, all
of Kensington; and ten
stepgrandchnildren.
The funeral was Tuesday
morning at First St. John
Lutheran Church in
Kensington with Pastor Dave
Hutson officiating. Burial
will be in the Germantown
Cemetery north of
Kensington.
Tracy Smith of Franklin,
Neb., had a kidney
transplant at a hospital in
Omaha, Neb., on July 4. He
is doing as well as
possible.Tracy is the son of
Sharon (Dettmer) Smith of
Lincoln, Neb., and a
grandson of the late Blanche
Dettmer. The family is very
active in First St. John
Lutheran Church and has many
friends in the area.
Pastor Patsy Koeneke
received word Saturday
evening of the sudden death
of her cousin in Topeka. He
was in his mid-50's.
Esther Norden turned 94
today (Monday). Her
daughter, Shirley Grauerholz,
and granddaughters,
Stephanie Lofton and boys,
and Mindy and husband Justin
McDowell, all of Denver have
been here for early
celebrations. Elaine,
Darrell, and Justin Bretton
have been busy with the
wheat harvest.
Margaret Stenseng and Brad
Johnson and their children,
Sean and Keely Stenseng-Johnson,
of Lawrence spent the
holiday weekend with her
parents, Martin and Florence
Stenseng. They helped her
parents with many chores
which was really
appreciated.
Lonna Allison of Newport,
Neb., spent the July 4th
weekend with her friend,
Judy Graf. Judy appreciated
the company while her
husband, Dennis,, was very
busy managing the Pro-Ag
Marketing during wheat
harvest.
Steve and Mary Hagedorn of
Tucson, Ariz., have been
visiting her parents, Dean
and Darlene Miller, and
other relatives. Janese
Erickson of North Platte,
Neb., and her
grandchildren, Isabella and
Samuel Nachtigal of Kearney,
also came down for visiting.
The Hagedorns went to Kansas
City Monday to spend time
with Steve's family before
returning home and preparing
for their daughter's wedding
in August.
Scott and Lisa Heeke
of Shawnee spent the long
weekend with Linda and
Leland Rahjes. Trevor and
Emily Bayliff of Lakin will
be brought by their mother,
Risa Bayliff, this week to
spend time with their
grandparents.
Dr.Byron and Leanne
Grauerholz, Ellie and
Benjamin of Salina were
weekend visitors with Darold
and Joyce Grauerholz and
other relatives.
Ed and Norma Bienhoff of
Salina helped Tom and Marcia
Bose and family with the
harvest. They returned to
their home Monday.
Lauren Dolezal of Lindsborg,
almost three, is
entertaining her
grandparents, Cindy and Ron
Rahjes, this week.
Most farmers are beginning
to see the end of the wheat
harvest and hope to wrap it
up this week. Yields have
varied greatly from field to
field. There was a lot of
damage from hail storms
hitting in scattered areas.
There were many beautiful
firework displays throughout
the city on July 4. It seems
almost eerie (but good) to
have the end of the "bangs"
after the holiday was over.
The summer is half over
and the calendars
say that classes at Thunder
Ridge Schools will begin on
Friday, August 15. In
contacting the school
office, they state that
there is a lot of painting
and planning going on for
this new school year.
Information will be printed
when it is available.
The usual fun and fitness
exercises begin each day.
The beauty shop was open
Monday morning and manicures
were given. One-one sessions
are held routinely. Bingo
was played Tuesday
afternoon.
Discussions Wednesday were
Canada Day and Winston
Churchill.
Pastor Koeneke had the
Thursday morning Bible study
followed by coffee time with
visiting. Hot dogs and a
trip to the zoo were
interesting talk sessions in
the afternoon. Fourth of
July was a quiet time this
year. Card games, puzzles,
waching movies, and the
Lawrence Welk Show were
Saturday's activities.
First St. John Lutheran
provided music Sunday
morning and had the
afternoon worship service.
Residents are getting
acquainted and enjoying the
new WII game shows on the
big screen television. They
can play tennis, bowling,
baseball, golf, and many
other games.
