It was a long week with severe weather affecting many families in this area. The tornadoes that hit Salina, Chapman and Manhattan and the floods in Iowa have created many anxious moments for those having relatives in the affected areas. Locally, it has been pretty quiet with a few storms, and farmers are busy, not only doing catch-up, but also trying to get the milo planted and hay put up.

The wheat is turning, but this writer was informed by a local farmer that the kernels are not completely filled out so it will be later this year before the combines hit the fields that have not been destroyed by hail.
