It was a long week with severe
weather affecting many families
in this area. The tornadoes that
hit Salina, Chapman and
Manhattan and the floods in Iowa
have created many anxious
moments for those having
relatives in the affected
areas. Locally, it has been
pretty quiet with a few storms,
and farmers are busy, not only
doing catch-up, but also trying
to get the milo planted and hay
put up.
The wheat is turning, but this
writer was informed by a local
farmer that the kernels are not
completely filled out so it will
be later this year before
the combines hit the fields that
have not been destroyed by hail.
As this is written Monday, it is
unusually cool. Light sprinkles
fell this morning and there is a
possibility of more showers
later today. Hail adjustors have
been in the area adjusting
damage to properties in
Kensington and wheat fields.
The usual greetings and fitness
and fun exercises and one-one
sessions are held each day. The
beauty shop was open Monday and
manicures were given. The Men's
Club met Monday. Bingo was
played Tuesday. Afternoon
discussions included summer
food, fact, removal of stains,
and the Old Swimming Hole.
The Hearland Worship Center with
Georgetta Kinyon in charge had
the Thursday morning Bible study
followed by visiting while
enjoying cookies and
coffee. Sports trivia and Flag
Day made for good discussions.
When the weather permits, the
afternoon discussion groups are
held on the front patio. Games
and movies are enjoyed in the
evenings.
