The Goldbug boys basketball team defeated Golden Plains with a score of 54-37 in the semis at the sub-state tournament in Colby Thursday night but were defeated by a powerful Sharon Springs team in the finals on Saturday night with a score of 72-44. (Stats of both games will appear in the sports section of this publication). Sharon Springs will now advance to the state tournament in Hays this week.

It was a great season for the Goldbugs with only two losses--one game in regulation play and then the final game at the sub-state tournament. It is a nostalgic time as the Goldbug uniforms will now be retired as the new season begins next year as the Thunder Ridge Longhorns. Congratulations to the teams and coaches for giving the community a sports program of which to be extremely proud.

The Kensington Firemen will have their annual soup and dessert dinner at the Kensington Legion Hall Sunday, March 9 with serving from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. The free-will donations will go for equipment and updates for the Firemen. Your correspondent was visiting with Newton Youngquist last week and he stated that he had gone to Seattle, Wash., instead of Pennsylvania last Christmas to be a Santa Claus. Instead of being in a mall, he was on a parking lot in a new log house which permitted only several families to come in to "visit Santa" at a time. This was less confusion than previously at the mall. Being a Santa with his snowy white beard has become a tradition which Newton enjoys each year.

An early reminder to mark you calendars and plan to attend the  performance of the Toney Brothers at the United Church of Kensington Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. This male gospel quartette comes to Kensington  each year with a full house usually in attendance. If you enjoy male gospel music, you won't want to miss this. Free-will offering will be taken.

March came in like a lamb with a gorgeous spring day on Saturday, March 1. The weather on Sunday quickly changed with strong, gusty north winds, colder temperatures and light rain. It is to be a cooler week with the possibility of several days of light precipitation before another warm-up so put away the garden tools and read another good book.

Attendance at the local schools seems to be about normal again and we hope the flu bug has lost its "punch" for this year.

The usual greetings and fun and fitness exercises begin each morning with one-one sessions held throughout the week. Hair styling and manicures were done Monday morning. Important February birthdays were noted in the afternoon. It was also National Potato Month. Bingo was played Tuesday afternoon. The Heartland Worship Center had the Thursday morning Bible study followed by cookies, coffee and fellowship. Lois Hrabe played piano music during the dinner hour. The local news was read from the Pioneer Friday morning and bingo was played in the afternoon. Puzzles, search-a-word, card games, movies, and game shows are enjoyed over the weekend and in the evenings.
