Twenty-one seniors will receive the last
diplomas from Kensington High School at
ceremonies Saturday, May 17 at 5 p.m. in
the Kensington High School Gym. Their
class motto is "They saved the best for
last." (The Kensington and Eastern
Heights schools will be consolidated
into the Thunder Ridge Schools next
fall).
The processional will be played by
Kristine Reneberg and the Rev. Dave
Hutson will give the invocation.
Superintendent Jeff Yoxall will present
the awards and scholarships. Principal
Todd Bowman will introduce the
salutatorian and valedictorian which are
not revealed until the graduation
ceremonies. These graduates will
then present their addresses.
After the recognition of the parents, a
power point presentation featuring the
graduates will be given by Bobbi
Struckhoff. Kristi Traffas, representing
the Board of Education, will present the
diplomas. Class sponsors, Scott Panter
and Don Wiens, will assist with the
ribbon cutting ceremony. After the
closing benediction by the Rev. Dave Hutson,
a recording of "Wildcat Victory" will be
played. A receiving line will form on
the lawn in front of the gym, weather
permitting.
Thirteen Eight Grade students of
Kensington Jr. High will receive their
diplomas in special ceremonies Tuesday,
May 20, at 7 p.m. in the Kensington High
School Gym. Jackie Reneberg and Greg
Yoxall will be their escorts, and
programs will be handed out by Brittany
Kirchhoff, Elly Miller, Katie Sarr, and
Ashley Struckhoff.
Katie Larson will play the processional
and recessional. The Rev. Dave Hutson
will give the invocation and
benediction. The salutatorian and
valedictorian will be announced.
Christine Kirchhoff will be the guest
speaker. Joel Hrabe of the Board of
Education will hand out the diplomas.
Parents and friends are invited to the
presentation of awards to K-Grade 6 and
a promotion ceremony for Sixth
Graders in the Kensington Lunchroom
Friday, May 16 at 3 p.m.
Ninety-two Kindergarten thru Grade 6
students, teachers, sponsors and bus
drivers will go to the Rolling Hills
Wildlife Adventure and Zoo near Salina
Friday, May 19, for their final field
trip of the year. What an exciting time
this will be for them!

The showcase at the Kensington
Community/School Library features a
display of Black and Gold and Goldbug
memorabilia as a last "hurrah" to these
colors and school mascot. The Library
and High School will be open for the
Alumni to view and reminisce about
their many memories the afternoon before
their banquet. Come in and take a look
during regular library hours or on

It will be a busy week for Joe and Beth
Burns and their family as Beth and all
three of their sons will be graduating
from various schools.
Their son, Joseph Burns, graduated from
Central Community College in Hastings,
Neb., with a degree in Sales and Parts
Management last Saturday, May 10.
Mother Beth Burns will graduate on
Thursday, May 15, from Barton County
Community College in Great Bend with an
associate degree as a Paramedic.
Son Nolan Burns and his cousin Craig
Wolf will graduate from Kensington High
School on Saturday, May 17.
Son Logan Burns, sixth grader, will be
promoted on Friday, May 16, and will
enter Thunder Ridge Jr. High in the
fall.
What a thrilling sense of accomplishment
and joyous time it must be for this
family. Congratulations to all!
Irma Lee, 92, died at Prairie Haven
Wednesday, May 7, 2008. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Bob, and a
daughter, Darlene.
Survivors include her sons and wives,
Lyn and Janis Lee of Kensington and Ray
and Linda Lee of Olathe; a daughter and
husband, Jana and Joe Jones of Shawnee;
a brother and a sister; seven
grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Saturday morning at
Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary in Smith
Center.
The Senior Class of 2008 is scheduled to
return from their sneak to Branson, Mo.,
tomorrow (Tuesday) evening.
Darrell and Elaine Bretton drove
to Denver and then flew to Seattle,
Wash., on May 1. They were joined by
their daughters, Mindy McDowell and
Crystal Bretton. Scott McDowell had
flown out earlier. The group were guests
of Scott's dad, Joel and Becky McDowell
of Des Moines, Wash. They toured
downtown Seattle and the Space Needle,
Pike Place Market, a drive to Bremerton,
Wash., a ferryboat ride back into
Seattle, and enjoyed delicious seafood
cooked by the host, Joel. Before driving
home Monday, May 5, they visited
Elaine's sister, Shirley Grauerholz in
Denver.
Joel and Connie, Paul, Ruth, and Don and
Pat Bienhoff of Kensington, Mark
Bienhoff and Troy Zwartz of Cedar
Rapids, Iowa, and Rod and Anita Hagman
of Buhler spent the weekend in
Fayetteville, Ark., in a mini-reunion
with John and Tonya Bienhoff and Jessica
amd Bennett Tiner. Enroute home they
drove through the area that was hit by
the tornadoes in south-western Missouri
Saturday evening.
This area received .80 rain in
thunderstorms last Thursday evening. The
temperatures had remained cool until
today (Monday), and there is a strong
south wind. It will probably brew up
some thunderstorms again in the next few
days. Farmers are busy with cattle and
field work.
The usual morning greetings, fun and
fitness exercises, and one-one sessions
are done each day. hair care and
manicures were done Monday. Health words
were discussed Monday afternoon. Bingo
was played Tuesday afternoon. Trivia and
facts of interest were talked about
Wednesday afternoon.
First St. John Lutheran Church had the
Thursday morning Bible study followed by
visiting while coffee was served with
cookies. Talking about flowers
interested everyone in the afternoon.
Bingo was played Friday afternoon. The
usual card games, quiz shows and movies
on television and Lawrence Welk Show
were enjoyed.
The United Church of Kensington had the
Sunday devotions.
Sympathy is extended to the family of
Irma Lee. She will be missed by staff
and residents.
