Around the
Community
Local
residents have kept the Smith County
Hospital busy. John Edmonds was admitted
for treatment of pneumonia. Lawrence
Conaway was transferred from Good
Samaritan Hospital in Kearney for
further medication and treatment. Eldon
Ratliff was admitted for observaton and
treatment.
Cecilia Grauerholz of
Phillipsburg, former Kensingtonite, was
admitted to the Phillips County Hospital
Saturday for undisclosed problems. She
has been dismissed.
It is
reported that Mary Anthony is making
good progress with therapy following
surgery for a broken hip. She is in
Manhattan near her daughter, Patricia.
LaVaille Anderson of
Wallingford, Iowa, was transferred from
the heart hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.,
to the Rosewood Manor in Estherville,
Iowa, last Wednesday, for further
rehabilitation and recuperation.
LaVaille had done volunteer work at the
Manor which is only six miles from their
home. It is hoped that she will be
strong enough to have the necessary open
heart surgery before Christmas.
Stan and Carolyn Billings, Don and Jan
Suchsland, and Janice Ratliff and Doris
Wiens were in Branson, Mo., Nov. 12 to
15 with the Jennings Tours of
Phillipsburg. They report seeing some
good new shows and having a wonderful
time.
Maria Seemann spent last
weekend in Overland Park with her son,
Louis and Kristi Seemann and family. She
especially enjoyed being present for the
tenth birhday party of her grandson,
Alex.
Alan and Judy Bates of
Kensington and Amanda Bates of Olathe
enjoyed an early Thanksgiving dinner at
the home of Jeremy and Krystal Rothe in
Phillipsburg Sunday noon. They were
among the 32 members of Judy's side of
the family in attendance. A good time
was reported by all.
A number of
local folks attended the "Forty Fingers"
concert provided by the Smith County
Arts Council Sunday afternoon. It was a
most enjoyable program appreciated by
all in attendance.
The weather
gave the farmers a break the end of last
week to get more harvesting done.
Temperatures as low as ten degrees
Friday morning reminded everyone that it
is almost Thanksgiving time, but farmers
state that it was not cold enough to
freeze over the many mud holes in the
fields. Moderation of temperatures on
Sunday was very much appreciated and are
due to continue until Thanksgiving.
We hope everyone will have a very
happy Thanksgiving. It has been a
sensational year as far as crops are
concerned with bountiful yields. There
are many concerns with illnesses,
heartaches, financial stress and job
losses, but we always must count our
many blessings. We pray that everyone
will take the time to thank God for
these many blessings while gathering
with family and friends for the holiday.
