Thunder Ridge
School Featured in Hays Daily News
The Wednesday,
Oct. 8, edition of the Hays Daily News
had the headline and the feature story,
"Name Change; Pride Doesn't", on their
front page with the story continuing on
two full pages in the rest of the paper.
The article told of the new Thunder
Ridge School. It is an interesting
"read" and shows the pride that
Longhorns have of their new district. It
features interviews with school
personnel and students as well as local
business owners and includes many
pictures.
A copy of this issue
is on file at the Kensington
Community/School Library and is also
available on the website at
http://www.hdnews.net/Story/kensington100808.
We hope everyone will take the time to
read this interesting story.
The
closing statement by one person
interviewed, "We're a new district, and
people are very proud of the new Thunder
Ridge District," illustrates the pride
supporters and enthusiasts have of their
new school.

Around the Community
Ted Levin was transferred
from the Smith County Hospital to the
Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney last
mid-week for further observation and
treatment for a heart condition. Yvonne
Levin of Brighton, Colo., and Ruth Levin
went to see him Saturday. Other family
members have also been going up to
visit.
Dale Detwiler was treated
for pneumonia at the Smith County
Hospital early last week and is now
recuperating at home.
The
household goods and house auction for
Lorraine Grauerholz went on as planned
Saturday afternoon despite the
occasional light rain. John Struckhoff
had the top bid of $66,000 for her
lovely home. Lorraine is a resident at
Prairie Haven.
Kiley and Katie
Beach of Topeka spent the weekend with
Curtis and Mary Beach and Bruce and
Amber Hardacre, Elizabeth and Abby. They
also celebrated Curtis' birthday.
Tonya Lee and son Camden of Denver
drove out for the weekend to be with her
parents, Leland and Linda Rahjes, while
her husband, Justin was on business
travel.
The fields had hardly
gotten dry enough the end of last week
to "mud-in" some of the wheat before
another rainy weekend was upon us. The
Bienhoff rain gauge has two inches in it
since the rain began Saturday. A cold
front is moving through and clearing
skies should bring temps down to near
freezing tonight (Monday) in western
Kansas. Wheat that was planted before
the rains is up and really growing. Fall
harvests are also on hold.
