Crowned at Thunder Ridge Friday Night
It was a
beautiful night for the crowning
ceremonies for the first Thunder Ridge
High School Homecoming Friday evening.
Queen Matraca Forell, daughter of Curtis
and Ann Forrell, and King Drake
Reynolds, son of Darel and Janet
Reynolds, were crowned before the game
with the Junior Class in charge. Crown
bearers were Amber Pruitt, daughter of
Lori and Joseph Pruitt, and Jonathon
Ferguson, son of Desiree and Kerry
Ferguson. Theme for the evening was
"Best Time of Our Lives."
Queen attendants were Jessica Adams,
Kellie Henderson, and Katie Powell. King
attendants were Blayne Bienhoff, Taylor
Kuhlmann, and Matt Teselle.
The homecoming game
was a disappointment when a powerful
Quinter team proved too much for the
Thunder Ridge Longhorns. Game details
and stats are in the sports section of
this issue.
A homecoming dance in the lunchroom
completed the week's festivities. |

Afternoon Tea Hosted by Chatter Hatters
The Chatter
Hatters of Kensington hosted an
afternoon tea Sunday at the First St.
John Lutheran Parish Hall with
approximately 40 Red Hat Ladies from the
area attending. Each member of the
Chatter Hatters was in charge of
hosting, decorating, and setting their
table with china. Many teapots were on
display, including the teapot collection
belonging to Karen Pollock. A variety of
English teas were served along with
English scones and lemon curd, dainty
sandwiches and desserts.
The special guest
and speaker was a very interesting lady
who goes by the name of "I Declare. She
also led the group in singing all the
verses of "I'm a Little Teapot." The
afternoon closed with several guests
telling about a special teacup they had,
and each hostess told the history of the
china and decorations they used for
their table. Several door prizes were
also given. The ladies commented that
they had a very enjoyable afternoon. |

Around the Community
Julie
Grauerholz of Hays was the key-note
speaker at the meeting of the St. John's
Red Hat Society in Hays on Sept. 23. For
her presentation Julie talked about her
many trips overseas and also had a
photographic exhibition of her European
trips. Handmade Germany blueberry torts
and drinks were served after Julie's
presentation. The twenty Red Hat Ladies
all reported a very interesting and fun
meeting.
Wayne and Jolene Beckman were thrilled
to get to see their son, Andy, on
television Saturday, Sept. 27. Andy
works for Garmin out of Olathe and was
selling Global Positioning Systems on
QVC-Shopping Network (Channel 6). His
fifteen minute presentations were on at
three different times.
Stan and Carolyn
Billings and Guy Billings were dining
out at Paul's Cafe in Smith Center
Sunday noon when they were surprised to
see Pastor Virgil and LaVaille Anderson
of Wallingford, Iowa, also having
dinner. Pastor Anderson served the St.
John Lutheran Church at Kensington from
1963-1978. The Andersons were on their
way to visit their daughter Lea Holste
and family in Atwood and then on to
Great Bend to visit their daughters,
Gloria and Lisa and their families. They
enjoyed a quick visit with the Billings
to catch up on Kensington friends.
After a beautiful week of fall weather
with temps in the low 80's and
comfortable night time readings, rain
began falling early Monday morning with
the Bienhoff gauge measuring 1.5 inches
as this column is completed at 2 p.m.
and light rain is still falling. The
wheat fields were dry and hard and this
soaking rain will certinly be a boost
for the newly planted wheat fields and
also give th[[ farmers time to catch
their breath.
Farmers are busy drilling wheat,
harvesting soybeans and some early corn,
putting up the last of the alfalfa,
filling silo, baling cane, etc. They are
as busy as the proverbial "cranberry
merchants." They state that the milo
will probably need a killing frost
before it is ready for harvest and the
forecasters have not indicated this in
the coming week. |

of the Road" was the afternoon topic.

Friday morning and bingo was played in

cards, watching game shows and movies,
putting puzzles together, and the
all-time favorite tv program is the
Lawrence Welk Show.
