Post Prom
Well-Planned and Success
It was great fun for the students and
their dates at the Post Prom Party
Saturday evening at the lunchroom made
possible by many people who worked Prom
night to keep the 90 kids entertained
and in one place. The theme for the
evening was " Thunderstruck Casino." It
was termed a well-worthwhile project,
and thanks are expressed for all who
helped make it a success.

Germantown
Cemetery Notes
The annual
meeting of the Germantown Cemetery was
held April 14. Upkeep and mowing is the
major expense for the Cemetery. The
Cemetery is not funded from the County
and a fee for perpetual maintenance is
no longer charged. The Board would
appreciate donations and memorials to
help with these yearly expenses.
Interest has been expressed in replacing
the old metal fence with a white vinyl
fence. If there is any interest and
support for this project, please give
the Board your suggestions and comments.
Board members are Alan Grauerholz,
Vincent Rietzke, and Brian Dettmer.

Kensington Lions
Celebrate 50th Anniversary
Kensington Lions Club members were
joined by spouses, past members, widows
of past members, and area Lions to
celebrate their 50th Anniversary
Saturday at the American Legion. A total
of around 60 people attended and were
treated to special dinner music by
Sherry Newbrey and Annette Riley as they
enjoyed a pork chop dinner served by the
Kensington American Legion. Blue and
gold decorations were used with spring
flower arrangements at the center of
each table. These flowers were later
given as door prizes to some of the
guests.
District Governor John
Lee introduced the speaker for the
evening, Ernest Young, Jr. who is a past
International Director. His message was
one of reflection on the many
accomplishments of the Kensington Lions
Club and of Lions International along
with a challenge to keep serving the
community and building membership in the
next 50 years.
Lions Martin

Around the Community
Gary Hainke is making satisfactory
recovery from back surgery at the Good
Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb.,
following injuries suffered in a car
accident near Kirwin early last
Wednesday morning. He was scheduled to
be moved from ICU this (Monday) morning.
Dorine Kuhlmann returned to
Prairie Haven last Wednesday after
hospitalization in Salina.
Bessie
Bierman was able to return to her home
over the weekend after receiving therapy
and care at Prairie Haven.
The
Kensington area received .80 of very
welcome rain in numerous light showers
last week. Warm spring-like temperatures
are predicted this week with less wind
which will spur all the spring-like
activities.
Keeping up with his
two children, Maggie and Brennan, and
his job at Pro-Ag is much harder for
Jeff Nech since he had repair surgery on
his ankle and is on crutches while it
heals.
Lexy and Logan Beckman of
the Kansas City area spent last week
here with their grandparents, Wayne and
Jolene Beckman, while their parents were
gone to meetings.

Prairie Haven
Notes
The beauty shop was
open for hair care and manicures were
given Monday, and one-one sessions are
held daily. "April Showers Bring May
Flowers" made for colorful afternoon
discussion. Bingo was played Tuesday
afternoon.
The halls were a
buzzing Wednesday morning when the third
and fourth graders came from Thunder
Ridge Middle School at Agra for their
monthly visit with their adopted
grandparens. Trivia was the afternoon
discussion. The United Church had the
Thursday morning Bible study with
refreshments and visiting following.
Various inventions kept hte conversation
lively in the afternoon. The news from
the Smith County Pioneer was read Friday
morning and bingo was played in the
afternoon. Other evening activities
include puzzles, card games, and
watching television and movies.
Pastor Becky Saddler and members of the
United Church had the Sunday afternoon
worship.
The remodeling is
completed except for the nurses'
station. The removing of walls, new
paint, and new floor and window
coverings opens up the outdoors and
makes the living area much more
spacious. Come in and have a look!
Bessie Bierman was able to return to
her home in Kensington. We are happy for
