MERRY CHRISTMAS TO OUR READERS--
This Christmas and always, may our hearts rejoice as we celebrate our Savior's birth. Merry Christmas. Blessings to you all, Ruth Bienhoff

Christmas Eve Program at St. John Lutheran Church

The children of St. John Lutheran Church (north) invite everyone to come to their program on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. The St. John Handbell Choir directed by Carol Rahjes will play prelude Christmas music beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The children's program, "The Christmas Message", will feature scripture readings, narrations, pageantry, singing, as well as special musical numbers as the story of the birth of Jesus Christ is told. Come join in the true joy of Christmas as only the children can relate this wonderful story. It is directed by the Sunday School teachers.

After a brief interlude, a Holy Communion service will be held. An offering for World Hunger will be received. Organist Dawn Meyer will accompany the singing of Christmas carols. A traditional Holy Communion worship service will also be held Christmas morning beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Other Christmas Eve Worship Events

A candlelight Holy Communion service will be held at the United Church of Kensington at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

First St. John Lutheran Church (on highway) will have a candlelight service at 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Library Hours During School Break

The Kensington Community/School Library will be open Tuesday evening, Dec. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during school break. Regular hours will resume on Monday, Jan. 4. A large number of DVD's and videos are available to keep the children occupied during vacation. The long winter evenings are a good time to catch up on your reading with the many books, both fiction and non-fiction, and magazines as well as DVD's for adults available.

Storm Warnings Create Concern

A major storm is predicted for this week beginning with freezing rain Tuesday evening turning into snow with blizzard conditions on Wednesday. With so many wanting to travel, we hope it takes a detour around our area.

We have had some really nice days with temps in the 30's and 40's which have shrunk the snow piles considerably. It would have been nice to have these conditions continue until after the holidays, but it is winter in Kansas and the weather must be respected. The weekend sounds clear but with cold temperatures well below freezing.

News Needed

There will be lots of company over the Christmas and New Years' holidays. Please consider putting your notes in the column. It's so easy--either call your correspondent at 476-2801, leave a note in her mailbox at home or the container at the post office, or, best of all, send it by e-mail to ruthb@ruraltel.net. Readers not living here locally like to hear of your family's gatherings.

Carols for Prairie Haven

A group of adults and children from the St. John Lutheran Church came Sunday evening during the supper hour to carol. It made the supper extra special to have this music to lift our souls and it was deeply appreciated. The Busy Bees 4-H Club also came to visit this past week and were so very welcome.

The beauty shop was open Monday and manicures were given. One-one sessions are held daily. A quiz on "What year is this?" tested our knowledge. Bingo was played Tuesday afternoon.

The Adopted Grandchildren, third and fourth grades, came to visit Wednesday morning. What a joy they are! Jimmy Carter and the Florida Keys were afternoon topics.

The United Church had the Thursday morning Bible study and visiting followed. Sweden, Pennsylvania, and proverbs, wit and wisdom gave everyone something to think about.
