Correction

Wow!! They say the third time is charm so here's the final correction on the Kensington Food Pantry. The Food Pantry will be open the third Saturday of each month at the Kensington Community Center unless the Center is rented for another purpose. Watch the flyer in the Kensington Post Office for confirmation.
Firemen's Benefit is Sunday Noon

The Kensington Firemen will host their annual soup dinner Sunday noon, Feb. 8 at the Kensington Legion Hall. On the menu will be the usual variety of soups and delicious desserts. Donations will be taken and proceeds will be used to maintain the equipment of these dedicated volunteers.

The Kensington Firemen are always ready for every emergency in the surrounding area, not just in Kensington. Be sure to attend this special event and support this group. The life or property they save may be your own, a member of your family, or a neighbor.

Book Fair and Parent-Teacher Conferences

There will be a Book Fair at the Kensington Community/School Library beginning Wednesday, Feb. 11 until Thursday, Feb. 19 during regular school hours with additional hours on Saturday from 9 to 1 p.m. and Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. Anyone in the school district and in the community is invited to come and browse and possibly make purchases. Books, games, etc., are available for all ages from pre-kindergarten thru adult.

Parent-teacher conferences will be held Thursday evening, Feb. 12 from 4 to 9 p.m. The Book Fair will also be available at the Library during this time.

Thunder Ridge Hosts Scholars' Bowl

Thunder Ridge High School hosted its first annual scholars' bowl tournament on Saturday, January 31. Teams participating in the tournament were Hill City, Northern Valley, Stockton, Logan and Thunder Ridge. Medals were awarded to the top three teams; 1st place - Stockton, 2nd place - Hill City, 3rd place - Thunder Ridge. Students participating on the Thunder Ridge team were Katie Larson, Trent Ferguson, Chris Cochrun, Nic Irwin, and Taylor Shaffer. Patricia Walters is their coach.

The tournament would not have been a success without all of the volunteers. Those who volunteered their time to help with the tournament were Principal Phil Riedel, John and Becky Saddler, Sherri Baker, Don Wiens, Sheila Bogart, Kathi Boden, Janet Reynolds, Carol Rahjes, Kellie Henderson and the junior varsity scholars' bowl members, Nathan Larson, Larissa Dettmer, Shelby Gordon, and Madeline Reneberg. Also, the Thunder Ridge High School cooks provided cinnamon rolls and the Steering Committee provided juice, milk and paper goods for the hospitality room.

She reports quite an adventure on a weekend skiing trip in the mountains the past weekend. Trips to Rome and nearby countries are scheduled for the group while there.

The groundhog saw his shadow Monday morning, Feb. 2, and that means six more weeks of winter as tradition indicates. Right now, no one is complaining about the weather with the high reaching into the 70's on Saturday. Your correspondent noted that the future stars of the baseball season had dug out their balls and bats and were having a game on the neighborhood lot. A bigger concern is the lack of moisture and lots of wind. Perhaps spring will come early with some needed rain.
