Kensington Store
Annual Meeting
The annual
meeting of the Kensington Community
Store was held April 28, 2009, at the
Kensington Legion Hall with Jeff Nech
presiding. Twenty-one members were
present (the Thunder Ridge School
program was held this evening and this
cut down on the attendance.) The minutes
were read by secretary Bonnie Slavik and
approved.
Manager Randy Dues
gave an inventory report of the store
that was taken in January. Sales were up
and labor costs were down for 2008. The
new lighted sign on the north outer wall
of the store was made possible by the
City of Kensington . It gives the time
and temperature and is a message center
for the community. An ATM machine was
installed inside the store for the
convenience of the community.
Other items of interest reported by
Randy were the following: a coupon
rependition plan thru the company, WIC
program, attending a food show in
Kearney and new products available, new
store hours (9 a.m. to 7 p.m.), new
dishwasher to be installed to cut labor
costs, noon meal sales, refrigeraton
repair and issues which have led to a
raffle for a computer. Haley Abbott won
the first computer in February and
another raflle is going on now with the
drawing on May 9. Randy thanked Thrivent
for their donation to the first raffle.
The Health Inspection for 2009
will be coming soon. Randy also
expressed his appreciation to the
community for their continued support
and donations.
Terri White and
Stacy Cole were elected to the Board of
Directions for a two year term.
Door prizes of gifts certificates were
drawn for Delores Ratliff, $25; Kim
Rietzke, $15; and Jolene Beckman, $10.
The meeting was adjourned.

Around the Community
Dolores Standley was a patient in
the Phillips County Hospital over the
weekend for treatment of pneumonia.
Harold is doing fairly well and enjoying
the fellowship at the Phillipsburg
assisted living facility.
It's
been a trying week for Margaret Stockton
who was air-lifted from the Hays
Regional Medical Center last Wednesday
to St. Francis Campus in Wichita when
kidney problems developed. She has been
put on dialysis at this time and is
showing much improvement.
Gary
Hainke has returned home and a therapist
will come later this week for his
therapy sessions at home. He is pretty
much confined to his home and
appreciates phone calls and visits.
Probably the happiest is the farmily dog
who has been lost while his master was
in the hospital. He spends most of his
time now at Gary 's feet.
Jim
Dreiling had a heart catherization at
the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney ,
Neb. , last week. He is home and doing
well.
Doris Hohner continues in
the Ottawa County Health Care Center in
Minneapolis , KS , where she is near her
son, Kelvin and Cheryl Hohner, and is
doing as well as possible.
Stan
and Carolyn Billings were in Oberlin
Sunday to attend the piano recital of
their twin granddaughters, Molly and
Morgan. They are the daughters of Ron
and Sheila Jansonius.
Laura Beth
Bienhoff of London, England, and
Jennifer Bruns of Marshall, Minn.,
arrived Saturday to spend this week with
their parents, Paul and Deb Bienhoff,
and to be present at the First Communion
of their sister, Leah,, at the Catholic
Church in Phillipsburg Sunday morning.
They will also help Leah celebrate her
9th birthday on Friday. Paul and Deb
hosted a dinner at their home Sunday
noon. Present were Anne Marie Gower of
Phillipsburg; Bernice Becker, John and
Ann Becker, and Diane Becker of Norton;
Paul and Linda Becker of Lenora; Joyce
Wentz of Tonganoxie; Judy Becker and
Kristin Meyer of Russell; Nick, Emily
and Lyla Levin of Inman; Chris
Broeckelman of Natoma; and Megan and
Kayden Hudson, Joel and Connie Bienhoff
and Ruth Bienhoff of Kensington.
The area received over and inch of
slow rain in numerous showers last week.
Temperatures were cool so vegetation has
been slow, but warmer weather is
predicted this week. Heavy fog early
Monday morning lifted quickly when the
sun gained control.
Thought for
this week--"Dream as if you'll live
forever; Live as if you'll die today."
