Band to KSU Band Day
The Thunder Ridge Middle and High School
Band will be attending the Kansas State
University Band Day on Saturday, Sept.
26. The twenty-eight members and
sponsors will march in a parade in
Manhattan in the morning, attend a
marching rehearsal after the parade, and
perform in a halftime show with the
300-member K-State Marching Band and
many other middle and high school bands
that attend Band Day. The students are
preparing their parade marching and the
music that will be performed during the
mass band halftime show.
It has been many years since our band
has taken a band trip and many more
since they've been to the Kansas State
University Band Day. The students are
very excited to get to watch a K-State
Football Game and to be on the field for
the halftime show!

Rocky Mountain Bikers Here Thursday
Morning
Thirty-six members of the Rocky Mountain
Cycling Club arrived in Kensington
Thursday mid-morning for a brief
reprieve. Members of the club are
required to ride from Boulder, Colo. to
Kensington and then turn around and ride
back, a distance of 750 miles in 90
hours. Most of the ride is done on
Highway 36 after they reach Strasburg,
Colo. In charge of the riders are John
Ellis who is biking with the group and
Charles Henderson who drives a pickup to
carry supplies and to assist in case of
an emergency.
The group left Boulder Wednesday morning
at 3 a.m. and rode to Atwood, KS, the
first day, a distance of 251 miles. The
riders took over a motel there and
stayed overnight to sleep, and it was
also a bag drop to pick up supplies. On
the second day (Thursday) they rode from
Atwood to Kensington and then turned
around to ride back to Atwood for their
overnight stop, a distance of 220 miles.
On Friday, they rode from Atwood to
Byers, Colo., a distance of 180 miles.
The trip must be completed by 8 p.m.
Friday evening to qualify for
membership. The cyclists will return to
their home destinations on Saturday.
The riders of this Club were also in
Kensington last year and enjoyed the
hospitality of the town, and Kensington
residents, in turn, were glad to see
this enthusiastic group stopping for
their turn-around route.

pllacements in the sports section each
week.

Layette Shower for Maria Stoll
Maria (Sweat) Stoll was honored at a

Brown, and Jessie Mayer. Maria received

mother, Wilma Sweat, her grandmother,
Ruth Sweat, her sisters Brenda Rongish,
Megan and Kaitlyn; Sharon Coats, Melissa
and Jennifer; Teresa Kidarsa and baby
Emma; sisters-in-law Sarah Sweat and
Emily; Michelle Sweat and Matthew; and
Apryl Sweat and Martin. Others attending
were LaVern Meyer, Kerri Kuhlman and
Felicia, Colette Sweat, Rosalie Meyer,

Around
the Community
Mary Anthony is happy to be back in her
own home in Kensington after a hospital
stay and further recuperation at Prairie
Haven.
Denis and Wilma Sweat had a houseful of
company over Labor Day weekend. Their
family was all home, except Jonathan and
Amy, who had a trip to Spain planned.
The occasion was a baby shower for Maria
Stoll; her baby is due in November.
Also, Teresa Kidarsa made the trip from
Albany, Oregon, with 2 month old Emma
and everyone made her acquaintance. Her
husband, Adrian, was very busy at work
and couldn’t get away to come. Others
present were Stephen and Sarah Sweat and
family; David and Michelle Sweat and
2-year-old Matthew; Joe and Brenda
Rongish and family; Sharon Coats,
Melissa and Jennifer; Paul and Apryl
Sweat and 1½-year-old Martin; and
Quentin and Maria Stoll.
Tom Hardacre left last Tuesday and drove
to Wichita where he picked up his sister
and they drove to Texas to spend time
with their brother, Roger Hardacre, who
is suffering from brain cancer and other
complications.
Lucille (Krein) Reynolds of Osborne
would like her friends to know that she
is getting along fine since cataract
surgeries on both eyes at Hays in late
August. Her son, Gary, was with her for
both surgeries.
The cool, cloudy sometimes foggy weather
continues. Kensington City received .30
inch of rain in showers Friday evening
which held off until the football game
was over. Farmers have wheat-sowing and
silo filling on their minds, but only
the very anxious have begun drilling.
There will be no problem of having
enough moisture to get the wheat up this
fall as sometimes has happened in the
past. The soil is in tip-top shape. The
air conditioners are taking a rest and
nighttime temperatures make more great
sleeping.
