Large Crowd
Gathers for Grauerholz Reunion
The family of the late Mary Grauerholz
Gemaehlich hosted the annual Grauerholz
reunion at the St. John Lutheran Parish
Hall Sunday noon, Sept. 6, 2009. A
potluck dinner was enjoyed by the large
group attending. Tables were also set up
in the hall to accommodate the many
attending. After the delicious meal was
finished, the various families were
introduced. The next Grauerholz reunion
will be held on the Sunday prior to
Labor Day, 2009 at the St. John Lutheran
Parish Hall with the family of the late
Lizzie Goll in charge.
While the adults were busy visiting the
children were enjoying the delightful
day and the outdoor playground equipment
north of the Parish Hall. The kids were
thrilled with the swings and slide, but
the Hainke merry-go-round which was
manufactured in Kensington in the 1940's
was the children's favorite. Adults
could remember when almost every rural
school playground had one of these
merry-go-rounds and also the memory that
children had a tendency to fall off from
it or get sick to their stomachs if they
were pushed too fast. It is reported
that no such incidence happened during
the afternoon.

Around
The Community
Annette Riley suffered a broken impacted
left arm in a three-wheeler accident
while checking cattle on the family farm
Saturday. Surgery was performed at the
Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney,
Neb., Sunday. Annette hopes to be home
in time to sing at the Labor Day
festivities in Gaylord at noon today
(Monday).
Ardith (McClure) Jones of Franklin,
Neb., is scheduled for knee replacement
surgery at the hospital in Hastings,
Neb., Tuesday. Ardith graduated from
Athol High School in 1946.
Margaret Stockton had surgery in Wichita
and then she and Bob spent last week in
Hutchinson for training to perform home
dialysis. They returned home Friday
evening and Margaret is so happy not to
have to make the trips to Hays three
times a week. She still goes to Smith
Center for therapy and appreciates all
the rides and prayers.
Earlene Bronson completed her series of
radiation at Hays last week.
Elaine Bretton had foot surgery in
Kearney last week and is finding that
being on crutches can be very confining.
Correction--Josephine Ann, daughter of
Ben and Sheila Nech of Dodge City, was
born at Dodge City and then transferred
to the neo-nursery in Wichita. Sheila
developed complications after the birth
but has now been dismissed from the
hospital in Dodge City and she and Ben
are in Wichita with their baby daughter
Josephine. They hope the baby will be
dismissed by the middle of the week.
Proud grandparents are Bruce and Deanna
Nech of Kensington and Kelvin and Glenda
Smith of Long Island.
E.R. (Bud) and Rosalee Nech of
Kensington are proud grandparents.
It was Brad and Mona Marler that moved
from Middleton, N.Y., to Tipton, Iowa,
recently. They are happy to be nearer
their parents and esoecially there two
grandchildren at Osborne.
Roberta Kaba enjoyed having her grandson
and family visit over the Labor Day
weekend. They are Mark and Beth Kahrs
and daughters, Madeline, 7, Sarah, 6,
and Samantha, 4, of St. Louis, Mo.
Scott and Lisa Heeke of Shawnee brought
their 2 1/2 month old son, Karsten, for
his first visit to the home of his
grandparents, Linda and Leland Rahjes
over the weekend.
Spending the weekend with Lois Hrabe
were Mike and Diane Hrabe of Canton and
Melinda Mazzarella of Colorado Springs.
Joining them for supper Saturday evening
were Dan, Trina, Raini and Owen Hrabe
and Joel, Kindra, Blane and Benton Hrabe.
Joel and Connie Bienhoff visited
Connie's sister, Mary Lou and Kenneth
Rose at Wray, Colo., and enjoyed a
mini-reunion with their family.
It's been a cool week giving the
air-conditioners a rest. Clouds and haze
have been prevalent most days. Farmers
would like to see more sunshine to help
the ripening process of the fall crops.
Rain is a possibility the middle of week
when another cool front moves into the
area. Gardeners are busy processing or
giving away the surplus vegetables they
are producing. It's been a beautiful
summer.
A truckload of ensilage was going down
Main Street today (Monday). It must be
getting close to fall!!
