Longhorns Carnival at Middle School
March 26
There will be fun and food for everyone
at the Thunder Ridge Longhorns Carnival
Friday, March 26 at the Middle School in
Agra. The Post Prom's Baked Potato Bar
with many toppings and desserts will be
in the Middle School cafeteria with
serving from 5 to 7 p.m.
The games and booths will open at 6:30
p.m. in the Middle School gym with fun
for everyone and run until 8:30 p.m.
Bring your family and friends to the
Thunder Ridge Middle School on Friday,
March 26. Proceeds will be used for
school projects.

Busy Week for Thunder Ridge Music
Department
Thirty-two Thunder Ridge Middle School
Students and their director and
accompanist, Kristi Reneberg and Sandy
Thomas, will leave early Wednesday
morning, March 24 for Logan for the
annual GNEC Music Contest. Tthe mixed
chorus, band, 15 instrumental soloists.
6 vocal soloists, 5 instrumental
ensembles, and 4 vocal ensembles will
perform their selectons before judges.
Results of this contest along with names
of the students in the ensembles will
appear in next week's news column.
Instrumental soloists for this GNEC
event are Heidi Larson, Erika Norris and
Breanna Shaw, flute; Jenna Dennis and
Caitlin Boden, clarinet; Lyle Kuhlmann
and Logan Miller, alto saxophone; Kinze
Reimer, Emma Wyrill, Miranda Atchison,
and Nolan Billings, trumpet. Vocal
soloists are Aleah Seemann, Jazmine
Gibson, Kinze Reimer, Caitlin Boden,
Emma Wyrill, and Miranda Atchison.
On the following Saturday, March 27,
Thunder Ridge High School Musicians will
be competing in the Regional Solo and
Ensemble Festival at Fort Hays State
University in Hays. The High School
Choir and High School Band, as a
percussion ensemble, will both perform
for judges as well as five soloists. The
vocal soloists are Chris Cochrun, tenor;
Trevor Lowe, bass; and Madeline Reneberg,
soprano. Instrumental soloists are
Jackie Reneberg, alto saxophone, and
Madeline Reneberg, flute. These results
will also appear in next week's column.

KAYS Blood Drive is March 30
The Thunder Ridge High School KAYS are
hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive at the
Kensington Community/School Library on
Tuesday, March 30. There may be a few
open appointment spots that can be
filled by community members. Contact the
school office at 476-2217 and leave your
name and number and information will get
back to you with available appointments.

Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 3
The Easter Egg Hunt in Kensington will
be Saturday, April 3, beginning at 2
p.m. Preschoolers, Kindergarteners,
Grades 1 and 2 will hunt at Prairie
Haven and Grades 3 and 4 will
congregation at St. John Lutheran Church
(north). Parents may park their cars on
the St. John Lutheran Parking Lot. The
Thunder Ridge High School KAYS will
assist with the event.
Businesses may leave their eggs at
Country Corner at any time before the
day of the Hunt.

taking bids for mowing this year. Please

KHS Alumni to Meet May 29
All Kensington High School classes
ending in "0" and Thunder Ridge Class of
2010 will be honored at the annual
Kensington High School Alumni Banquet
Saturday evening, May 29. The Class of
1990 will be the hosts. For advance

Birthdays Celebrated at Senior Center
There were 33 present at dinner at the
Kensington meal site on Thursday, March
11, to help eleven members with March
birthdays celebrate and 8 meals were
delivered. Celebrants present were Lelia
Grauerholz, Eulonda Hagman, Al Lambert,
Leonard Schultz, Max Currey, Evelyn
Norden, Elsie Fiene, Eleanor Wehe, Betty
Wagner, Lucinda Migalski, and Ruth
Bienhoff. Places were marked with a
greeting card and a sack of goodies.

Hainke/Nichols Wedding Saturday
Gary Hainke and Liz Nichols were joined
in marriage at the St. John Lutheran
Church Saturday evening, March 20. Their
attendants were their children, Leslie
Hainke and Natalie (Hainke) Knipp and
Cole Nichols and Katie Nichols. The
reception and dinner followed in the
Kensington Legion Hall. After a wedding
trip to New York, they will be at home
on a farm southwest of Kensington.

Around
the Community
Myrnah Ratliff Has been back in the
Smith County Hospital for observation
and treatment. She hopes to be released
early this week.
Jim Dreiling had emergency heart surgery
on Friday and two stents were put in.
They returned home Sunday evening and we
wish him a speedy recovery.
Word was received here that Jerry Brien
of Ft. Worth, Tex., a 1965 graduate of
Kensington High School, is suffering
from a recurremce brain tumor. He would
enjoy cards, letters or phone calls.

John and Margaret Edmonds, Tommy and
Sophie of Plano, Tex., spent school
break last week with John's father, John
H. Edmonds. Margaret spent considerable
time with her mother at a rest home in
Plainville.
Visitors with Lois Hrabe last week were
Duke and Kathy Hrabe of Tempe, Ariz. and
MIke and Diann Hrabe of Canton. Local
families, Dan, Trina, Raini and Owen
Hrabe and Joel, Kindra, Blane and Benton
Hrabe joined in the week of fun. They
attended sales, took drives in the
country, and did a lot of reminiscing
and visiting.
John and Linda Scheer of Leavenworth and
Tim and Christina Scheer and family of
Topeka were weekend guests of Bob and
Donna Westbrook and B.J. and Melissa
Westbrook, Morgan and Maycee.
Barbara and Jenny Reilley, Donna
Westbrook, Lora Dettmer, Jeanette
Stevens, Carolyn Mott, Ruth Bienhoff and
Pastor Patsy Koeneke attended the spring
Women of the ELCA Spring Cluster
Convention at Zion Lutheran Church in
Phillipsburg Sunday afternoon. The theme
was "Anchored in Hope." Pastor Lorna
Paulus gave an illustrated Bible study
on Jonah. Amanda McKenzie, guest
speaker, gave an informative
presentation of Hospice, Inc. A salad
supper concluded the event.
Pastor Frank and Shirley Pekarek of
Salina were visiting in Kensington over
the weekend coming especially for the
wedding of Gary and Liz Hainke. Pastor
Pekarek is now totally retired from the
ministry and they are enjoying lots of
travel on tours and to visit friends.
Gilbert Kuhlmann accompanied his
daughter, JoLinn and Fred Rogers of
Hays, to Denver over the weekend where
they visited their sons and families.
Robert (Nick) Pennington is recovering
from major surgery and plans to go back
to work at Pro-AG Marketing in about a
week.
It was back to school for Thunder Ridge
students and most of the college
students this Monday morning. The high
school students will return from the New
York/Washington, D.C., trip Thursday. It
was a yucky week for trying to do things
outside, but the storm on Friday left
only about an inch of snow on the
ground. Temperatures are warming up this
week with the possibility of rain later
in the week. It is good to see the wheat
fields greening up and some early spring
flowers emerging.

Prairie Haven Highlights
The usual greetings and exercises begin
each day. One-one sessions are held
daily. Wanda gave nail care of Monday.
March being peanut month and weather
lore were afternoon discussions. Current
events were presented Tuesday morning
and bingo was played in the afternoon.
The beauty shop was open Thursday and
Pastor Koeneke of St John Lutheran had
the Bible study followed by social time.
Old time spelling bees kept everyone's
interest in the afternoon.
Current events were presented along with
local news being read from the Pioneer
Friday afternoon. Bingo was played in
the afternoon. The usual entertainments
and watching movies and the Lawrence
Welk Show kept everyone busy on
Saturday.
Pastor Koeneke of the St. John Lutheran
Church and Steve and Linda MIller had
the Sunday afternoon worship and
communion service. Ruth Bienhoff was the
pianist.
Montra and Mary Jones celebrated their
64th wedding anniversary with family and
friends Sunday and enjoyed the lunch
meal together. Ice cream and a special
anniversary cake were served in the
afternoon. They also received a
beautiful bouquet of flowers Friday.
