Around
the Community
Leland Miller of Phillipsburg, but who
is well-known in the Agra/Kensington
community, fractured a hip in a fall
last Monday. He was transported to the
Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney,
Neb., where surgery was performed
Wednesday. Plans are that he will be
returned to the Phillips County Hospital
today (Monday) for further recuperation.
Cathy Diercks of Agra fell at her home
Sunday afternoon and broke her hip. She,
too, was transferred to Kearney, Neb.,
for surgery to reduce the fracture.
Cathy has been confined to a wheel chair
since open heart surgery and followed by
a stroke last December. Her husband
Garen works for Pro-Ag Marketing.
Al Lambert received a phone call over
the weekend that Wilma Starks of
Boulder, Colo., had fallen and broken a
hip. Wilma was manager of the Kensington
Community Center for many years.
Megan Matthews, daughter of Michelle and
Larry Matthews, granddaughter of Shirley
and Jack Smith all of Wichita and the
great granddaughter of the late Leo and
Lorraine Grauerholz of Kensington and
the late Harry and Ruth Smith of Agra
received her Masters of Occupational
Therapy degree May 16, 2010 from the
University of Kansas. Megan has accepted
a Pediatric Occupational Therapist
position at the Salina Regional Health
center.
Martin and Florence Stenseng were in
Lawrence Sunday to attend the graduation
of their granddaughter, Keely Johnson
Stenseng, from Free State High School.
Keely is the daughter of Margaret
Stenseng and Brad Johnson.
Jessica Bauman, 2001graduate of
Kensington High School, has accepted a
job with the Watkins Mill Park Camp
Youth Center in Lawson, MO, beginning
June 1. She will currently be living
with her aunt and uncle in Excelsior
Springs until she finds her own place.
Jessica is the daughter of Dan and Lisa
Bauman.
A large group of relatives and friends
gathered at the First St. John Lutheran
Parish Hall Sunday noon to honor Mildred
Dettmer for her 90th birthday. The
dinner was hosted by her daughters,
Anita Palmer and Janice Kuhlman and
their families.
The United Church of Kensington had a
potluck dinner Sunday honoring the
Sunday School students that had
graduated to the next level. Later Mike
and Dianna Rice hosted a get-acquainted
party for their grandson, Hadyn Michael
Rice, son of Chase and Abby Rice of
Norton who is almost three months old.
What a weather change. Last Friday, the
furnace heat felt good in the morning;
Saturday, the air conditioners were on.
The strong winds have also been an
uncomfortable factor. Severe thunder
storms have been forecasted in western
Kansas almost nightly and could possibly
become a danger in this area later this
week.
Thought for this week--No one is
perfect; That's why pencils have
erasers.
