MARCH LEGION NEWSLETTER

FRED MARRIN AMERICAN LEGION POST 166
PO BOX 67, 118 S MAIN
KENSINGTON, KANSAS 66951

Dear Members:

Something to start thinking about and participating this summer, the Commercial Club is trying to put an all day celebration together in observance of Kensington’s 125th Birthday.

Volunteers are needed to help at Monday night Bingo and Friday night suppers.

This month is a busy month for needing volunteers for preparation, serving, and clean-up as we will be serving Alumni Banquet and then on Sunday with Memorial day activities. We need as many members as possible for decorating honors. We are adding 3 more in the afternoon: Gaylord, Cedar, and Claudell due to Gaylord Legion disbanding and joining our Legion. The three added cemeteries will already be decorated. We will be doing honors only. Contact Duane Peterson - Legion; Doug Rahjes - SAL; Karen Pollock - Auxiliary.

We received a letter and picture from the National Commander congratulating our Legion for one hundred per cent membership and thanking us for our services to the community and country.

Thank you to Naponee and Republican City Veterans and wives that attended our Legion gathering hamburger feed on April 21st. We had approximately 55 people attend and enjoyed our building and visiting.

Roy Wangerin and Dick Detwiller were honored at DAR Ceremony at Smith Center on Saturday April 21st along with numerous other WWII Smith County Veterans. for the 70th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor which was postponed from December 2011.

SAL held their elections last month with following as officers: Commander - Doug Rahjes: Vice-Commander - Ron Sidman; Adjutant - Jeff Nech; Treasurer - Kelly Bertholf; Chaplin - Ron Rahjes; Sgt of Arms - Galen Larson; Historian - Kevin Smith.

Auxiliary election is in May. We have 4 going to Girl State and we are working with Agra and they are sponsoring one.

Ted Mogan - Legion Commander Doug Rahjes - SAL Commander Earlene Bronson - Auxiliary President

Mark Schemm - American Legion Rider Director (ALR)
